St. Joseph's Service
Society is engaged in
a struggle to
mainstream the
marginalized people of
our society. It is
painful to see in
India after sixty two
years of independence,
people who have not
been able to enjoy
freedom: Children
placed on the streets
in begging profession
or exploited as cheap labour craft, children
with disabilities
totally ignored or
marginalized, disabled
adults without job
opportunities, rural
women kept away from
education and from
decision making
process, girl children
discriminated, and the
elderly and the sick
people abandoned to
their own destiny.
St. Joseph's Service
Society is trying to
make a tiny
contribution in its
own way in solving the
above-mentioned
problems. Our efforts
include starting model
centres for inclusive
education, integrated
rural health care,
vocational training
for the disabled,
community based
rehabilitation
programmes such as
empowering rural women
and disabled adults,
assisting the sick and
the elderly,
motivating the rural
population to send
girl children to the
school and creating
awareness to end
discrimination
towards them.
Our main area of
activity is San Joe
Puram, the children's
village, and several
villages around San
Joe Puram. The most
important undertaking
of the Society is
Infant Jesus School
with its “Inclusive
Education” programme.
It gives opportunity
to the rural children
to have access to a
school with the same
facilities, which the
children get in the
city schools. We hope
to see within ten to
fifteen years
ex-students of Infant
Jesus school visiting
us as doctors,
engineers, business
managers, technicians,
teachers, nurses and
top class civil
servants, serving the
nation.
We remember with
gratitude all our
sponsors who have
facilitated our
mission. We look
forward to expanding
our activities into
more rural areas as
well as in various
parts of the National
Capital Region and
integrate into our
activities those
strategies and
methods, which are
proved successful by
other NGOs in this
field
